Refilling Those Small Propane Bottles
As an old aircraft mechanic I developed a healthy respect for
compressed gases.
Refilling oxygen tanks for aircraft
that flew at altitudes that required oxygen was always done by folks
who had the special training to make sure they did not overfill the
tanks and blow up the aircraft. Some of the fillers were A&P's.
Those of us who working nearby when the filling took place got well
away.
Different strokes for different folks,
but I have always been afraid to refill the little tanks. My concern is
that it may be possible to get too much liquid propane into the small
tank, create pressure far beyond what they are designed for, and blow
up in my face.
That would cause a REAL bad face and
hair day.
An old saying always guided me when I
was flying an airplane: "There are old pilots and there are bold
pilots, but there ain't too many old, bold pilots." Rather than test
the wisdom of that saying, as adapted to the little propane bottles, I
shall be an old dude who is not bold enough to refill them.
