This place I really enjoyed. Fifty miles or so south of Memphis. I
spent two weeks there in June 2002. $1.50 a day on grass or two bucks
on a paved site, with my senior card. I opted for grass and bought beer
with the savings. On the way to the Slabs in November 2005 I stayed
there on the paved site for no charge. It is free off-season. Spent two
enjoyable weeks waiting for the gravy train to pull into the station.
Once I passed GO and collected $400 I headed west to the Slabs.
No steep hills to climb in or out. Easy drive from Batesville. Seven
miles or so. A super Walmart in Batesville. Booze is not sold on Sunday
so stock up on Saturday. For wine I had to go to a state-approved
store. Expensive. But beer was available in convenience stores, Wal,
etc. There is a gas station at Walmart. Get one of their gift cards and
use at the gas station to save a couple of pennies. The Kroger store
there had some right cheap loss leaders. I got me one of their cards
using Sardis Dam as an addy.
One thing nice about the site is that it is patrolled by the COE
several times a day. Even after dark. Most of the time I was the only
one in the CG, 2002 and 2005. A state campground in between
the two COE CGs was packed. But it cost a lot more, too.
The grassy one has a few showers that are outside and cold water. When
the place was empty, I would head for one at night with just a towel,
soap, shower shoes, and shorts on. Drop
the drawers, step in, and scrub down.
